Finished Floor

Saturday, October 29th

We picked up our finished floor from Floor & Decor in Tukwila, WA. We purchased six boxes (which came to over $500! I thought since we had a "small" space it would cheaper). The brand is NuCore and they're vinyl planks with cork backing. The color is butter toast.

The planks are neat in that they don't need any adhesive or screws. They lock into place like puzzle pieces. We used a rubber mallet to ensure they securely fit together.

The tools we used to measure and cut the planks included a contour tool (to help measure where screws and grommets in the floor were), a hole saw, jig saw, and a sliding miter saw. Cutting around the grommets took the most time - we probably spent about 3 hours measuring, cutting, and making adjustments to one plank. But it paid off since it looks amazing.

We were able to finish the majority of the floor in one day. There were only a few planks we had left to do but we were losing daylight and there were several grommets to measure, which we learned takes the most time.

Seeing what cutting around the grommets individually looks like.

We ended up cutting a rectangle around these grommets instead of trying to cut around them individually.

Lucky was not amused to watch our progress.

We were able to complete the finished floor and Josh was even able to cut a plank to cover the side door step. The floor looks great and we are happy with the progress we've made. Altogether, with the radiant floor, subfloor, and finished floor, the total floor height is 1.25" tall. Next we need to purchase the retread for the step.
